Whites Off Earth Now!! is our first album, released in 1986 on our own Latent Recordings label. Like its’ more famous follow up album, The Trinity Session, it too was recorded in a single session with a single Calrec ambisonic microphone. Recorded by Peter Moore in our rehearsal space/garage it captures the essence of our sound: just the four of us surrounded by lots of dark space.

WOEN was recorded on a digital F1 Betamax machine. 1985 was early days for digital recording and there were a lot of unknowns in the process. The advancement of digital technologies has allowed for a true re-mastering of those original recordings which has brought out more depth, clarity and purity in the sound. For this release, Peter Moore went back to the original session tapes and re-mastered all of the tracks for the stereo and SACD versions of the disc. He then took those stereo tapes and ran them through a new software program (GPS Audio) that he and his partner George Guerra have pioneered. The GPS computer program, using various forms of high-tech voodoo, turns stereo recordings in to 5.1 surround sound audio (for more technical details go to gps-audio.com). WOEN lends itself perfectly to the process. Listening to the recording in 5.1 places the listener in the middle of that stifling garage back in 1985, with the band set up around you, focused on the task at hand. It’s an incredible audio experience.

For this release, we have teamed up with Mobile Fidelity Labs (http://www.mofi.com/) which specialize in audio-file releases. They have done a great job with the packaging which features insightful liner notes about the making of the album, excerpted from Dave Bowlers on-going band biography. MFL will also be releasing the re-mastered album on high-density vinyl (its worth buying a new turntable just to hear/feel the bottom end).
